Librarian - a pedagogical key role in the school's language and knowledge development work for language-conscious teaching

Soldalaskolan is a F–9 school in Södertälje with approximately 550 students. We operate in a linguistically and culturally heterogeneous school environment and have a clear focus on the quality of teaching, language and knowledge development, as well as systematic development work.

We are now looking for a librarian who wants to take an active and significant role in the school's pedagogical activities.

Your responsibilities

As a librarian at Soldalaskolan, you are not a service function alongside teaching. You are part of the school's core mission and work closely with students, teachers, and school management.

The library is a pedagogical resource used in teaching and as support in students' language, reading, and knowledge development. The role involves close collaboration with teachers, particularly in Swedish and language subjects, as well as with the school's development teachers.

You actively contribute to the school's development work by:
- strengthening students' reading ability and reading motivation
- working with information retrieval, source criticism, and media and information literacy
- supporting teaching through planned initiatives linked to the curriculum goals

In the role of librarian, you will among other things:
- plan and implement reading promotion activities for students of different ages
- work together with teachers in teaching-related initiatives
- meet students in both planned teaching situations and in the library's daily operations
- develop the library as a pedagogical environment for learning
- be responsible for the library's collection and library system

The work involves many meetings, a high degree of collaboration, and a clear pedagogical focus. You need to be prepared to work in an environment where flexibility, relationship-building, and pedagogical judgment are crucial.

- sees the school library as an active part of teaching
- has the ability to work independently while also collaborating closely with others
- is confident in meeting students and professional in collaborating with colleagues
- wants to contribute to the school's development and take responsibility for your assignment
- is confident in meeting students and professional in collaborating with colleagues

Requirements:
- qualified librarian or equivalent education
- experience working in a school library
- good digital competence
- good ability to express yourself in speech and writing in Swedish

The position cannot be filled by applicants who lack librarian education or equivalent education.

Meritorious:
- education in Swedish and/or Swedish as a second language with knowledge of or experience in language and knowledge development methods
- experience in reading promotion work in linguistically heterogeneous student groups
- experience working closely with teachers in teaching-related roles
- experience working with newly arrived students or multilingual learning environments
- familiarity with working with media and information literacy (MIK) in a school context

- have a genuine interest in literature and learning
